Up North was fun. Really, really fun. Trust me, we deserved this vacation! It’s been 8 years since we went away, just the two of us.
The scenery was breathtaking. I felt like I was at the Cape and not in Michigan. On either side of M22, at various points, lay gleaming, glistening bodies of water. The beautiful homes that line the shores of the lakes. The many stunning, sleepy towns like Suttons Bay, Glen Harbor and Leland. Each town, one main street bustling with tourist activity, visiting points of interest, cute shops and candy stores.
Michigan wineries offering samples of their product, buy a wine glass and try 5 different wines. But it’s impossible to leave with just the wine glass. So, we came home with 14 new wine glasses and 2 cases of delicious Michigan wines. My favorite winery was Chateau Fontaine, with 45 North pulling in a close second. Oh…and Bel Lago was pretty good too with the highlight being the darling man who poured us HUGE sample glasses of whatever wines we wanted.
And the ruined barns. Who knew how deeply in love I would fall with them. Photographing them with my point and click. My husband stopping the car so I could get out and take a picture every single time I gasped in awe.
Here are 3 of my favorite shots:
It was nice to be away. To have nothing on my mind and really, not much to even talk about. The silence was comfortable, the chatter was fun. Being together, without kids, pets, phone calls, bills, real life…was WONDERFUL. It was icing. The cake decoration was driving in the lap of luxury that the Lincoln MKT epitomizes. A review will be coming soon on that car, which…I’m really sad to have to give back tomorrow.
And then…we came home.
To kids whining and fighting. To dog poop scrapings, all over the floor. To a blue-striped dyed mohawk. To my husband running out the door with my ex-husband so that they could go play poker. Have I mentioned my complete disgust for poker? Have I also ever mentioned how strange I think the whole “hanging out with my ex-husband” thing is?
It was dreamy to live in a nice, quiet, pretty fantasy for a few days. I had almost forgotten how chaotic and smelly reality is.
A few of those noisy, odoriferous parts of reality were jumping up and down and welcoming us home.
Yes, it’s good to be home, I almost JUST started missing the kids.
While I very much adore and love with all of my heart most of my reality, there are some things I would definitely like to change.
For starters, the dog poop covered floor.
Oh…and the poker games. Yeah, definitely rid the poker games.
Sounds like you had a blast!! I am sure the Lincoln MKX was a dream car…. I am still missing the Taurus Limited I got to use for my trip to DC!
I didn’t know your ex and current husband take part in these poker games. No wonder why you are not a fan of them!! I would be too. You could always join and take their money and see how much they enjoy it then? Just a thought.

I want to live in that gorgeous barn. Seriously. LIVE. Glad you had some time away together. We all need more of that in our marriages. Keeps them healthy.

Have you asked him to just not play poker anymore?
I would love to have a getaway. Unfortunately we don’t have the time (vacation) or the money right now. Hopefully next year.
Ooh, I love the look of that car. Good choice! And the vacay sounds great.
Gotta admit the husband and ex hanging out does sound a little weird. Just sayin….
It’s sounds like a well needed and relaxing vacation. You pictures are gorgoues! Hope the vacation buzz lasts at least until the weekend 🙂

Michigan has been really advertising here in Massachusetts a lot to get people to vacation there. It looks pretty.
I am tired of the Cape so maybe Michagan might be good.
That sounds amazingly relaxing and lovely.
Also, you had me at “gleaming, glistening bodies…”
XO.
