Lists, in my opinion, are one of the more unfortunate aspects of blogging. The annoying popularity contest syndrome.
I think that they are stupid and quite frankly, I can’t stand them. I’m not saying I don’t like the people that make them, in fact, some of my good bloggy friends are on lists like Babble and Neilsen.
Why do we need them? Especially in blogging? It’s just another thing to make other bloggers feel like crap when “vote for me” tweets, status updates and posts are being written. Don’t worry, it doesn’t make me feel bad. At. All. And yes, if I happen to adore you (or even kind of like you), I do vote.
BUT…they are DUMB. There, I said it. Lists are dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
I don’t even feel the need to write a grocery list. All in my memory baby. I don’t ever forget what I need, either!
The only list I follow is my Blogroll and sometimes yours. And my Twitter list. Which is constantly growing and changing. There is no #1 or #10000000. Just links randomly placed on the page. I love everyone equally, regardless of race, color, creed or sexual orientation or list.
I think that I actually cared last year about the whole list ridiculosity. I went back and reread some posts about the whole list season. Actually, I wrote a few good posts you can read here and here.
This year? Over. It. And no, I’m not jealous. Not even a tiny pea of jealousy is coursing through me.
The only list that I would like to make. Someday. If I can get off my lazy ass and do anything about it…
The New York Times Bestseller List.
Now THAT would be a list to brag about.
Otherwise, congratulations. But really? I would like you even if you weren’t on some stupid list.
dude, i hear you and totally agree. i got nom’d for Babble and I am like ‘how much am i supposed to care about this’ and all and you’re right- i shouldn’t care. ok, letting it go. thank you for the wisdom- i wrote last year that i was not going to get sucked into popularity contests and then i let it happen again and D’OH! so thanks for the heads up, mama!
xoxo
A FUCKING MEN!!!!
Damn I love this post. LOVE IT. I don’t vote (sorry to my friends) and I don’t pay attention to that crap. I just think it’s stupid. and I’m not jealous either, cause I’m nowhere near the bloggers that get on those lists. I’m a tiny little peon in the blogosphere and I like it like that 🙂

You know who drools over those lists? Marketers. I have already seen them talking about it on twitter. Why? Because they’re LAZY!!!! I didn’t get on twitter or do my blog for popularity. I don’t need to go back to junior high. Once was enough.

I’m with ya! I might feel differently if I ever made any of those ‘beautiful people lists’… I kid.
These lists are one of the things I really dislike about blogging… how you feel if you aren’t ‘nominated’ for these awards or recognitions, if your not getting tons of votes or whatever. Feeds into that high school clique atmosphere.
I just want to have a great group of friends and not worry about what people who don’t know me, think of me.

Amen sista. A-freakin-men!
Those lists are pointless. There should be a list of the best up-and-coming blogs or something that will introduce unknown bloggers to the world. How much more publicity does the Pioneer Woman need? Seriously.
You know what’s really funny? I’ve been blogging for almost three and a half years and this is the first I’ve heard of “list season.” Ignorance is bliss?

I agree. I think it is a way to increase the power of the so called big bloggers because that’s how gets voted for all the time and make the rest of feel like crap, or try to anyway.
So high school. Except in high school the one really popular girl after getting voted Homecoming Queen went to the office and told them to take her name off of anything else she was elected for. She had won once and that was enough. How fucking awesome is that? Love her.

What lists??? I guess I enjoy living in my own oblivious blog world. Lmao
I never get voted for anything anyway. If someone reads my blog…great! If not…it’s my expectation so it’s all good. Hehehe. xoxo
Love the post, but I do not see lots of lists in the blogs I read. Besides, I know that to read me is to love me (lol)!
