My husband and I bought a Honda Pilot in 2002, just two months before we got married and joined my mine with his yours. Or vice versa. And, a little over a year before the ‘ours’ entered the picture, screaming and red-faced.
That Pilot took us to Florida. It tooled us around Canada. It drove us around on a daily basis.
For 13 years, a car accident and 150, 000 miles.
It’s been a major part of our married life, our Honda Pilot. But, as it got older, it started to complain about moving, like a crotchity old person. Sure, it started up when we put the key in the ignition. But, it didn’t necessarily want to even let us unlock the doors, which creaked and squealed when they were opened.
We realized we were driving on bided time. Our trusty Honda was not longed for this world much longer.
Meanwhile, over the past few years, I had been longing for a Ford Flex. Don’t ask me why, I just loved the look of it. And, I was dying for one. Not literally, of course. But, I was longing for one. Drooling over them. I needed a Ford Flex. I mean, I didn’t really need a Ford Flex. We have that Honda Pilot which fits all of us and also, a Buick that runs rather nicely. But..oh, how I love the Ford Flex. It’s like a super cool family car without being a HUGE SUV or a minivan.
So, the other day, one of my Facebook friends mentioned that her husband just started working at a local car dealership and if any of her friends wanted a new Ford, he was there to help. On her status, I mentioned I wanted a Flex but probably wasn’t going to happen. The last time we had tried to get a car loan, we were denied. Our struggles with Bank of America had left our credit in ruins. We were able to save our house, with the help of an attorney. But, our credit? Notsomuch.
Somehow, I told my husband about my friends husband.
Somehow, he agreed that we could look into it.
Somehow, we ended up having a conversation with my Facebook friends husband, Billy. Who works at Skalnek Ford in Lake Orion, Michigan.
And somehow, we ended up at the dealership.
And somehow, we ended up test driving the car I’ve been longing for. The Ford Flex.
And somehow, our credit had finally righted itself.
And somehow, we took home a gorgeous 2015 Ford Flex SEL AWD in Magnetic with charcoal black interior.
I am still pinching myself. Somehow, I haven’t left a bruise yet!
I’ve only been driving it now for two days. But, it’s an incredible drive. I took ‘er out on the highway, today. Before I even realized what was happening, I was going..ahem..way faster than the law enforced speed limit. Oh, don’t you worry. No arrests were made and no tickets were given. I slowed down when I realized the err of my ways.
Here are a few things I love about this car, aside from how quiet and smooth the ride is.
The voice command thing. You push a button on the steering wheel which wakes up someone that sounds A LOT like Siri. She asks what you want, only..she’s polite about it. Then, your wish is her command. Radio, Climate. And I’m sure there’s more but that’s pretty much all I’ve discovered, thus far.
Bells and whistles and everything in-between. There is so much to play with on the dashboard. So fun!! And, I have the 80’s on 8 Sirius channel. Well, I have all the Sirius channels. But, 80’s on 8 is the one I’m most excited about. Plus, First Wave is a great channel, too.
Comfy 3-row seating. There’s room for seven small people or six regular sized people. And plenty of leg room in all three rows.
Pilot seats..SO COMFY. Long road trips will be a pleasure, assuming we can ever take any! Also, it has enough head and elbow room for my ape-like husband who is over 6′ tall.
Trunk space is okay. It’s better if you fold down the third row when you need a lot of space. But, for regular, everyday grocery shopping or binge clothes shopping, it’s perfectly roomy enough.
Since I’ve only been driving this for two days, I’m sure I have more to discover about my car. For instance…how often am I going to be fueling up. And, how it handles in the winter. But, the Flex and I have three years to get to know each other better. So, as my great uncle Rudy would say, why get a speeding ticket?

Disclosure: This was not a sponsored post in any way, shape or form. It’s merely a post about my love for my new Ford Flex.
I’ve had mine since the summer and we love it! I call it Taking the Limo. Our son plays travel hockey and we needed more room and more comfort for road trips. Oddly, the car we replaced was a loyal Honda as well. Did you know there’s a Facebook page for the Flex? (yes, I’m that much of a nerd) Enjoy the ride!

Looks like a very sturdy car! I also had a Honda Pilot at one time. It was good for the time I used it. I now have a Hyundai Sonata. I don’t wait until 150K miles! 😉 But it’s good that it lasted you so long and now you can enjoy this one.
