Emmi-Dent is a tooth whitening system I was introduced to over this past summer. It’s a revolutionary new way to clean and whiten your teeth using ultrasonic waves on a motionless, electric toothbrush. There is no friction so it doesn’t wear away at your enamel or your gums. Also, the system minimizes dental disease by combating the bacteria in your mouth, which is the root of many dental problems.
I was excited to try it out because I had used a tooth whitening system prescribed to me by my dentist which caused such sensitivity that I could only use it for a couple days. I have a very high pain threshold but my gums were so sensitive from the prescription whitening gel, I had to stop using it.
My teeth have always been white but, I’ve noticed discoloration, particular over the last couple of years. I refuse to think it has anything to do with age. I’ve tried various whitening strips, toothpastes, gum, even aside from the stuff my dentist had me use. Results were never that noticeable to me, or to anyone else for that matter. But, I think I’m my harshest critic.
Upon using the Emmi-Dent system, I noticed a lightening in the color of my teeth after the first day. By day three, my teeth were noticeably whiter. Sadly, I lost the pictures from my iPhone when I upgraded to iOS 6 so, you’ll have to trust me on this.
After day three, the whitening process slowed down. My teeth still got progressively whiter but results weren’t as drastic as they were those first three days.
My only beef with the system is, it takes about 3 minutes to do your whole mouth. The head of the brush covers two to three teeth at a time, depending on the size of your teeth. You motionlessly hold the brush on your teeth for about 10 seconds at a time for the front and then 5 for the back and inside since whitening doesn’t really matter in those places! Realistically, 3 minutes is nothing in comparison to having to wear the strips or the tooth plate filled with gel for an hour or more so, I guess one shouldn’t complain, now should they?
Do I recommend this product? Why yes, yes I do. It retails for $189 and you can purchase it via the Emmi-Dent website. The tube of specially formulated toothpaste lasts approximately one month and the brush heads last even longer than that.
The price, I find to be fair in comparison to the professionally prescribed stuff. I paid almost $300 for my tooth whitening plate plus the painful, prescription strength, could kill a horse tooth whitening gel.
One thing, however. The toothpaste. While it is necessary to use it with the system, I highly recommend using mouthwash or lightly brushing with regular toothpaste after the process because it doesn’t really do much in the bad breath department. So yeah, your teeth will be whiter but people will be steering clear of you because of dragon breath.
All in all, it’s a great little system to get rid of coffee, tea, cigarette and any other tooth discolorations. Pretty much permanently.
Disclosure: I was sent an Emmi-Dent system to review and was compensated in no other way. All opinions written on this review, as with all my other reviews, are very much my own.
