I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to vacuum my couch, only to discover a fortune in change between the cushions.
I also can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken clothes from the washer and from the dryer to discover dollar bills and other forms of monies had been literally laundered.
What about the pennies we throw into our jacket pockets or clink around on the bottom of our purses?
How about all that change that falls out of wherever, only to land on the car floor and collect under the seats, getting sticky from juice boxes or coffee spills?
Every single day, all over the country, hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS of dollars are found in their hiding places, waiting to be discovered.
And what do we do with all this loose change once we find it?
We waste it.
Gumballs or other vending machine miscellaneousness for our kids.
Super sized Diet Coke.
99 cent deals at drive-thrus.
The dollar stores.
Or, we just leave the shiny stuff in bowls, designated for money that has been lost and found in crevices and corners throughout areas of our lives.
Here is what I propose. And bare with me, this is a work in progress but it’s this burning desire I have and I WILL make this happen…
The Dollar For Change Project…which, is a temporary title…
What if, universally, we collected our change that rests on floors, under beds, in couch cushions…anywhere your change might be hiding…
And WHAT IF…
We got MILLIONS of people, all around the country. NO…the WORLD…
To donate ONE DOLLAR.
And it goes into a fund…
To help people going through their own battles with the banks?
What if WE can help THEM TO KEEP THEIR HOMES?
Or help them with the deposit for a new place that they have to lease until they can get back on their feet?
Or we help them with their moving expense?
By just donating a dollar (of course, bigger donations would be accepted)…that we didn’t even know we had because it’s been hidden and we NEVER MISSED IT!
That dollar, combined with everyone else’s dollar, could change peoples lives.
Our change could change things.
It could make a difference.
WE could make a difference.
WHO IS IN?
P.S…this idea is in the beginning process. I bought a domain and I need to find out how to set up a non-profit OR find a non-profit to work alongside. Suggestions, ideas…needed!!
pps…based on LB’s comment…i don’t mean that you literally would send your change, could you imagine counting the quarters and placing them in the rolls? UGH. There would be a paypal component, of course. Make things easier. And keep in mind, this IS a work in progress.
I’m in.
Looking in my love seat cushions right now…I’ll give you $1!
Because it’s easier to buy a Coke than to donate… I’m such a loser and a Debbie Downer, but I suck at charity. I don’t mean to. I mean, I give to the Santa dude and to St. Jude when I buy groceries. Heck, I donate to the mission around here about 3 times a year. But for a charity that is not local? I suck. Besides, how am I going to get my coins through this damn computer. Telepathy?? Or maybe a gigantic tube thingy like at the bank. You stick the coins in the tube and they miraculously appear at your house on the other side of the country. LOL! Sorry…I’m a loser.
Lovely idea! I really like when the stores, instead of asking customers to donate a $1, ask them to donate the change to make their bill even to the next $1.
