This year will be my 3rd Blogher. Yeah, in case you haven’t heard me screaming all over the internet, I decided to go after all. The thought of all of you being without me was hard to handle so I bit the bullet and bought my ticket. 🙂 You’re welcome.
This year, my preparations for Blogher will be quite different. Partially because it feels different this year. Maybe it’s the fact that I made a final decision at practically the last minute. Maybe because I know EXACTLY what I’m in for and none of it overwhelms me…except for the flying part.
I won’t be preparing. No, not really at all. OK…I’ll get my roots colored and my digits done. Just so I don’t scare anyone.
I will not be buying new things to wear. I will not be fretting over parties, both the private and public ones. I’m not bringing super fancy clothes. I AM bringing super high heels and flip flops though because that’s how I roll. I’m also bringing stuff to work out in because yeah, I plan on using the gym there. After all, just because I’m in another state, it doesn’t give me an excuse to break my Commitment to Habit which…I’ve kinda broken since this summer started.
This year…I don’t care. I’m going for one purpose only. To see my friends that I only get to see once a year or so AND those I’ve never gotten to meet in real life. Oh, and also? I’ve never been to San Diego so I plan on sightseeing while I’m there.
THAT is it.
Which is why I only did the Expo/Party Pass this time.
I’ve realized from the past conferences, none of the things I’ve worried about pre-conference ever matter. How I look. What I wear. What sessions I go to. What parties I’ve been or NOT been invited to.
None of those things matter.
If you spend your whole time wondering and worrying, then you’ll miss the most important part…
Blogher is one big GNO weekend with a bazillion of your besties all staying under the same roof. For some of you that are going to the sessions, it’s a chance to learn from those who may know more than you. For others, it’s a chance to get out and explore strange new surroundings without kids wanting to stop at every toy store and McDonalds in the vicinity.
So, my best advice to you is…
Drink lots of water.
Hang out with your girls…and guys.
Drink wine, beer or whatever your poison may be.
Bring motrin, aleve, tylenol or whatever your hangover remedy is.
Bring flip flops or other comfy shoes. You are on your feet. A LOT.
Don’t spend a fortune on clothes because that’s silly. Although, I’m sure you’ll look hot but that sort of gets lost when it’s in a room with 3000 other women and a handful of guys. But, to each their own 😉 Anyways, it’s more that there is an excuse to get all dolled up, right?!
Don’t get overwhelmed. There is no reason to. We are all bloggers, not rock stars.
Take breaks, decompress. It’s so easy to get overstimulated at Blogher, so many sights and sounds. Sometimes you will need to run away and hide in a bathroom stall. Just make sure that The Bloggess isn’t occupying the one you want because, I hear she likes to hang there too. I don’t blame her really, it’s cool and quiet. Some of us do our best thinking in the bathroom. Er…Um…
The most important thing to remember…
HAVE A FREAKING GREAT TIME.
I can’t wait to meet…see…hang out with all of you!! Hit me up with your phone #’s if you want to meet up! rockanddrool at gmail dot com
See you in August!!

Yay! I’m so glad you decided to go! I’m doing things differently too – and I definitely want to get some beach time in!

I’m skipping again this year. It’s really a shame since it’s so close to me, but I just can’t justify the expense. I hope you have a great time and wave when you fly over Vegas!
Well… you know I’ll be there. And… I know I’ll see you.
: )
I’m in total agreement… it’s all about having a fun time, and learning a little along the way.
I am going to the sessions… a great many of them. I don’t know which ones though since I’m a volunteer and being told where to go when. I kind of like it that way. I stressed last year over what sessions to try to get into and then I was disappointed I barely made it to any sessions I wanted to.
Next year… I’m thinking party/expo pass only.
I haven’t bought a single new piece of clothing for BlogHer. I would like to get a hair cut before then. And maybe a pedicure. But that’s on my to-do list anyway.
Oh… and I’m actually hoping the bathroom I choose to hide in is the one where I can find The Bloggess.

I’m as excited as a kid going to Disney World. For real. Maybe even more excited.
I’ve looked at the agenda and I have an idea of what I want to do during the day, but I also want to remember to be flexible. It seems like every day some new announcement comes out about something that will be going on. I know a lot of people are trying to get into a lot of different parties, but I really just kind of want to hang out and it seems like BlogHer will have a lot of cool parties that you don’t even have to be invited to so I’m sure that’s where I’ll be.
San Diego is awesome. You should find someone to hang out with during the day and check out the zoo. I know it sounds like a kid thing to do, but it really is a great zoo. Or maybe just go hang out at the beach. That would be fun too.

Thanks for the tips, Melissa. This is my second conference – EVER – and I AM FRETTING! 🙂 I probably will do a little shopping. I like retail therapy and rumor has it that yoga pants aren’t really acceptable. Can’t wait to see my friends and make new ones, though!
