“How much do you love me?”
He is just walking in the front door and hanging up his coat. I’m in the kitchen, multi-tasking between facebook, twitter and figuring out what to make for dinner.
“Um. Sure. Yeah. Of course.” I’m romantic like that. Besides, I’m distracted.
Kids start fighting or talking loudly, sometimes I can’t tell the difference. He wanders off to see what all the commotion is about, leaving me half wondering what I’m supposed to be loving him so much for.
A half hour later, after diffusing or making worse, he comes back into the kitchen and finds me in EXACTLY the same spot that he had left me, which was the exact same spot I had been in for practically the entire latter portion of the day. I’m crazy wild like that.
I look up from my very serious work of multi-tasking. “So?” I ask, attempting to raise a brow. I’ve tried, unsuccessfully, to work that brow thing. Well, it’s not working but one brow is now raising a tad bit higher than the other…if you look really closely, you can tell. Swear!!
“So.” He raises his brow back at me. Effortlessly. Because he has stronger eyebrow and forehead muscles than I do. Clearly. “What are we doing on April 23rd?”
I give him my special look, it’s called “Deer in headlights”. I reserve it for times like these. “Yeah, I dunno.”
The date sounds familiar. It really does. Is it Passover? No, that’s a few days before. Is it my son’s birthday? No…that’s the same time as Passover…poor kid.
“OMG!” I remember why that date is familiar.
I love Duran Duran. What? You already knew that. Of course you did, you’re my friends, you know almost everything about me. Besides, you probably watch me making a fool of myself when I tweet them like a cheerleader trying to get the captain of the football teams attention by shortening my uniform skirt…or something like that.
Anywhoo…
Duran Duran is touring with their new album, which isn’t half bad, actually. But, to my extreme devastation, they aren’t hitting the Motor City on their tour. Which…c’mon guys. You’d think that they’d want to come here and entertain their number one fan. Right? Well, I guess I shouldn’t expect them to come here, the boys NEVER talk to me on twitter. Sigh.
So, I found out that the the nearest cities that they were coming to were Chicago and Toronto.
Chicago is easier, I don’t need a passport or a special drivers license. But…whatev.
So, I mentioned to my husband that my first loves, Duran Duran, who I love more than anyone…were coming to Chicago and would he be interested in doing a Grateful Dead but for Duran Duran.
He said…no. Can you believe, knowing how much his wife loves Duran Duran, he pretty much broke her heart?
So, when he mentioned April 23rd and the date sounded familiar, it’s because that is when MY BOYS are going to be performing at The House of Blues in Chicago.
My hubby, who despite my horrible cooking and housekeeping skills, must really love me because he surprised me with tickets.
To Duran Duran. In Chicago!!
For my birthday present.
So, I called the only person who I felt would fully understand the excitement of this whole thing so I could squeal to her…Melisa, who thinks that John and Simon are her guys so just humor her, OK. And…when I’m in Chicago, I get to see her, too!!
I can NOT WAIT!!
The BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVAH!
So…how much do I love you? Yeah, a lot (more than Duran Duran but shhh…don’t tell them.
)

Jealous! Have fun, and that’s my daughter’s birthday! I wonder if she’d be interested in seeing Simon and John with me?? At 7, probably not.
Hmmm our 22nd anniversary will be this Sunday, I did not hear anything from hubby. I cannot expect anything from him, he always have amnesia pertaining this kind of events. Albeit, he sometimes pop up with surprise dinner. I hope that would be the same this year.

I got my best birthday present from my two sons. It was just a galloon of ice cream and a kiss but it was the best memory and gift I ever had. What they did was what my dad always do to me on my birthday when he was still alive. A gallon of ice cream(my favorite since childhood) and a bunch of flowers. Now my sons are continuing what my dad used to do. Thanks very much it was very touching.
