Years ago, like 1995, I moved into a house with my ex-husband. The kitchen was GINORMOUS and we needed a large table to fill that huge eating area.
I gained custody of that table (and my kids, of course) after my divorce. Then, he moved out of our old house and I moved into a new life with many children. We needed that huge white table badly.
But sadly, the chairs that went with it didn’t make it. The cats claws the pleather seats, the chairs were wobbly and would fall over backwards at any given movement. We never bought new chairs because, well, we couldn’t afford to and the ones we saw, we just hated. Not to mention, our kids were young and we were worried that all the new chairs would get destroyed. Because, they would. For sure.
So we used these…
Yes, you are seeing correctly. Card table chairs. From Sam’s Club. For the ENTIRE 7 years of living in our house, those have surrounded that table, which is 15 years old and losing its luster.
I hated my kitchen. It was a place where I sat to eat or work. It was functional but not very pretty despite picking out beautiful yellow paint and hanging pictures. The table and chairs were bringing the place down.
It was time to start searching.
And we did, high and low. Everything was too expensive though.
But then…
We came across a site on Craigslist. Because yes, I’m not ashamed to say that someone else’s loss is my potential gain. Especially in the antique section where I’m on the hunt for a DINING room table. We found Jugo Designs, a company that stages houses and sells the furniture for GREAT, OUTSTANDING and PHENOMENAL prices. No kidding. Check it out. I’m going to be buying living room set next.
And finally, after years of searching. After years of frustration between prices being too high for a kitchen set and also, finding nothing that we really were that crazy about, we found it…
Our new kitchen table and chairs!
I’m so excited.
It’s amazing the difference it made in the kitchen.
I switched out the pictures that were hanging already for a couple other ones we had around the house.
And viola…
I LOVE my kitchen!
I love how it looks!
Now it’s pretty and fresh, just in time for my Chanukka/Blue Bunny Ice Cream party on the 10th that we are having with some friends and their kids.
Just…no one sit in the chairs, ok?! I don’t want the chenille getting ruined.
disclaimer: I don’t need a disclaimer, no one paid me a cent.
Looks great!!!
Love it, Melissa! It’s so exciting to get something new for the home. Always makes me feel happy. A very well-deserved treat for you and your family, just in time for the holiday season. BTW, just bought some Blue Bunny Butter Brickle (say that 5 times fast) – YUM! Enjoy your party.

Totally, cool, dude.
There’s no shame in buying someone else stuff! We’ve pretty much been in the same boat as yourself as far as the dining room table. We used my mom’s 1970s dark wood table for years, until the seats were finally so nasty from the babies eating at them that we had to get rid of them.
So, we bought a table from a consignment shop …. and it, of course, a few years later, looks like crap.
I’d love to drive down to Amish country and buy one of those oak sets – I just don’t have a few extra thousand bucks. So, I actually have gone to a few estate sales in the area, but haven’t found the right deal yet.
My wife and I together make good money. That doesn’t mean I’m too proud to buy something from a Salvation Army thrift store or from any other source. It’s called being smart with your money!
Good job!!!!

That looks awesome. Maybe though you should cover the chairs in plastic, like our relatives used to do when we were kids.
