A Rant About Hemlines For Teens

We raise our daughters to know how important it is for our reputations and virtues to remain flawless.

We try to drill into their heads how important it is to keep our underwear on and our legs crossed. Some need to be reminded to keep their jaws locked, as well.

We want our girls to be good people and students and to someday graduate high school without any major incident.

We see how young girls dress when our daughters are even younger and we make promises to ourselves that THAT will NEVER happen. Our daughters will NEVER go out of the house looking like hookers.

Then, they get a little older. Events come along, like Homecomings, Bat Mitzvahs, Proms.

We take our daughters to the mall, or even worse…we give them a credit card and send them to the mall with friends. To pick out dresses, shoes and accessories to wear to these events.

And then what?

Do we stick our heads in the sand as our daughters leave the house with their labia hanging out of their skirts that are SO SHORT they might as well be bandeaus?

Their heels are so high that hookers are jealous.

Mothers, what are you thinking?? Why are you letting your daughters leave the house looking like this? I don’t care how great you think they look or how vicariously you want to live through them. They are NOT age appropriate. AT. ALL.

We are in Homecoming season right now. I’ve seen your daughters at restaurants, Dairy Queen, 7-11. The entire Metropolitan area has seen their butt cheeks or worse hanging out of their dresses.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

And yet people question why our youth are starting to have sex so much younger with every generation.

Could it have to do with the fact that every generation, the skirt gets shorter by a couple of inches?

And don’t even go there about the boys needing to take responsibility. They are grind dancing with a girl who has had her vagina and boobs hanging out, flaunting themselves all night, they are thinking they are going to get a piece of that.

Not that all these girls are having sex yet. But let me tell you, the vast majority of them look like they are.

Some parents are oblivious because the girls leave the house looking presentable yet have a tiny dress rolled up in their little clutch.

Parents…check your daughters purses before they leave the house!! Also, figure that if they are wearing a decent outfit and there isn’t a crotch bearing dress in their purse then…the friends house that you are dropping her off at? The teeny, tiny hooker dress and shoes are waiting for them in their friends bedroom.

The way these girls are showing up at events, it’s reprehensible and inappropriate and they look like cheap red light prostitutes. All thats missing (on some) is a cigarette and a drug induced vacant look (for some).

If that’s fine by you and you’re of the mind that kids will be kids, well then yay for you. Don’t complain that your daughter is due in late summer.

I completely realize that girls with longer skirts can be just as fast (or not) as their short skirted peers. But at least they aren’t giving off that impression to the entire general public.

Just do everyone a favor. Make sure the skirt is longer than your daughters pubic hairs.

    When my daughter was in MIDDLE school I chaperoned a dance. The clothes some of those pre-teens were wearing were incredible. One girl looked like she was wearing a tube top as a skirt and her MOM was the other chaperone.

    I believed that if they are attending a school function, the same dress codes regarding skirt length should apply as it does in class – finger tip long.

    You need to join us next week at The Spark Summit in NYC where teens and national girls orgs are challenging sexualization in media/marketing to pushback against the ‘pop tart’ messaging of objectification and soul eroding self worth! I’m about to post a free book giveaway contest authored by our board advisors (PackagingGirlhood.com) to come up with CREATIVE/conceptual Halloween costumes and let out a rebel yell against commodification of this crud. (e.g. Lisa addressed Target’s recent ad making fun of a perfectly appropriate lil’ kid as lame in favor of what, sexy slithery storebought cwap? ugh)

    it’s funny how dress codes were a lot lenient back in my day, and ever year after high school, they just got more & more strict. i sometimes have to wonder if these girls (boys, too, w the sagging pants & such), are doing this in rebellion. i don’t think short hemline dresses are a problem if they are in good taste. i have seen plenty of girls dressing like hoochies here, and i’m glad my girls are not like that. if they did, their dad would flip out. he already gets weird when they wear shorts that aren’t fingertip length, but not booty shorts either.

    it seems that everyone’s in a hurry to grow up :o/ my girls already have people thinking they are 2-3 yrs older than they are w/o being hoochie-fied. i can only imagine what it would be like if they were like the girls who like to show off all their assets. luckily, they don’t think you have to dress slutty to get anyone’s attention.

    btw it’s not just the slutty attire that makes boys think they’re gonna get some, it’s how these girls act, too. i’ve got my own rant about that in the future lol

    Yes, yes, and yes. I’m sure you know how I feel about this because I’ve written about it so many time, today to as a matter of fact. I just don’t understand why women (girls) don’t respect themselves more. It makes my heart so sad for them.
