OK, so Katy Perry chose a gold mini-dress with a bustier top to wear for her Hot and Cold duet with Elmo on Sesame Street. The big deal is???
I just find it funny that in a society that demands it’s rights to breast feed in public and doesn’t think twice that they are pushing their beliefs onto other peoples children’s eyes.(No, I’m not stating an opinion, merely a fact) AND, parents that allows their daughters to go to school scantily clad with daisy dukes and bikinis on top. Or jeggings that show off every crack and crevice paired with a skin tight top, most likely with their daughters cleavage hanging out. I know…I have daughters and they have friends.
I see how kids dress.
And there is such a major concern about this video? Um, WHY?
If it was not the most appropriate outfit to wear for the Sesame Street set, the producers should probably have mentioned this before filming. Or maybe it didn’t bother them until after when they thought “uh oh, we’re gonna get it.”
If you read the comments on facebook notes, more people were shocked that Sesame Street chose NOT to air it.
One comment stated that our children see more body parts on Disney Princesses. SO TRUE! Their form fitting clothing and voluptuous figures are watched countless amounts of time throughout the day in many homes across the world. All that happens is our daughters want to grow up to be a princess, not a stripper.
And should we mention Bratz, Barbies and Moxie Girls with blow job lips? That we buy in copious amounts for our girls to play with! THAT is OK?
I just find our society so inconsistent about what they find to be morally right and wrong. And then, the inconsistent rules change daily to suit the phases of the moon?
If cleavage is wrong then cleavage is wrong across the board. That means women everywhere should start wearing turtlenecks and high waisted slacks. Or skirts.
Uptight much?
I was always told consistency is key. So what’s it gonna be?
To me? The real issue is…that song is HORRENDOUSLY AWFUL.
Besides? No offense to Katy but she doesn’t have much cleavage anyways.
totally agree. this is nonsense. as stated poor judgment on the staff’s part in choosing that song. the outfit, while tacky is neither obscene or offensive.

I think we should hold some standards high. I was never allowed out of the house in something skin tight and strapless, and I don’t plan on letting my children have those clothes either. I know plenty of parents who don’t buy their children Bratz dolls. I think its good parents are speaking up about this, just like they are speaking up about breast feeding.
I love Katy Perry, but she’s definitely more mature, and not a role model.

Well, while I think that breast-feeding and Katy Perry’s titties are two very different issues, I don’t see anything wrong with what she is wearing (nor do I think it is a big deal for women to breastfeed in public). The US is so uptight about bodies. I think it’s fine. It’s not like she is dressed like a dominatrix. Just my two cents. Of course, I let me 3 year old son squeeze the bras at Target….so I might not be the best one to comment.
They’re just boobs, people!

Heh. Being a working Mom has its benefits. Mainly? Missing big blow ups on the Internet like this.
The dress is just uggo but my kids LOVE that song. They actually sing it all the time (and it doesn’t bother me – they’re cute as hell!). I always thought it could be transformed into a great song for kids with all those opposites in it!

I like it – the video, that is. It would ruin my reputation if I didn’t.

She looks weird, but I don’t think it’s too risque for Sesame Street. By the way, can you tell me how to get there? 🙂

I think her outfit is tacky, but I find her fashion sense to veer towards train wreck anyway.
I think this was all a tempest in a teapot.

I think that her outfit is a little inappropriate but it isn’t up to Katy Perry or Sesame Street to raise my daughter. That’s MY job. So if my kid decides to go to the playground in a tube top and crotch-length skirt that’s my fault.
Have you SEEN Miss Piggy? Her cleavage is OK, but Katy Perry’s isn’t?
And I know Miss Piggy is a puppet and not a Sesame Street cast member, but some of those other puppets on SS? Downright scandalous. Some don’t even wear shirts.

I think the difference has to do with the show being on PBS. They are (or should be) setting a higher standard. Allegedly.
Personally, I agree the issue isn’t the dress. That song is just ugly.

So um does anyone not notice Elmo’s naked? LOL!
The whole thing is ridiculous.
Helloooooooo Producers. Where were you? Anyone out there? Did Russell Brand produce this freaking thing? Someone higher up is getting yelled at over this.
Also I was totally expecting elmo to motorboat her. I’ve seen too many elmo’s worlds where he kisses babies.
