Amare Stoudemire just signed a five year 100 million dollar contract with the New York Knicks. With bonuses and endorsements, he will make over ONE BILLION dollars.
Let that sink in for a minute.
ONE. BILLION. DOLLARS.
For being good at throwing balls through hoops.
Educated, hard working people are being laid off. Homes are going into foreclosure by the neighborhood. Families are in jeopardy.
Also, our environment is all fakakta. Oil spills, ozone holes, natural and unnatural disasters aplenty.
It’s a mess.
But not our sports figures. Heck no. We can’t let our entertainment suffer! Let’s give those guys some ginormous raises to keep them throwing, jumping, running…you know, all the important stuff that starts with something active and ends in -ing.
Disgusting.
And that is only one player on a team of many. Which means salaries that equal the national debt of some small nation. But that means the ticket prices will go up exponentially. Which means that, due to the horrible economy, the general public won’t be able to afford these tickets anymore so they’ll be watching the games at home…on T.V. Which means…more advertisers will want to…oh never fricking mind.
UGH. It makes me sick. I like sports even less now.
You know, I’m really excellent at Mommy-ing. Does anyone want to give me a huge salary with an even bigger bonus?
Didn’t think so. There just isn’t enough value or entertainment in raising children.
Ugh where do I begin… makes me so angry. Sports figures and actors are hugely overpaid, it’s disgusting. Just goes to show where society puts its value… sad.

I agree with you 100%. Used to be they played because they enjoyed it; not for the money. Now they will only play for the money. It sickens me. To top it off, somehow they have become “heroes” and “idols” that children look up to and aspire to be like when they grow up. And yet, one after another, they get into trouble with drinking, drugs, guns, women, etc. These are the “heroes?” Bah!

I agree completely. It is like we have our priorities completely backwards.

I’m so with you on this. The salaries athletes are paid are obscene, and don’t forget the additional millions they also get in endorsements.

Our priorities are so wrong. So, so wrong.

Been singing this same song for ages. I just don’t get it. Actors, athletes, and let’s not forget those who do absolutely nothing but wag a huge ass around (Kim Kardashian) or no ass at all (Paris Hilton).
These folks spend nights in $10,000 hotel suites, $45,000 a night yachts….while we work as hard as hell just to make it to the next pay check! What IS really up with that?
Ooops! There I go ranting again. Sorry

I don’t get the point of paying to watch people play sports anyway. We prefer to play them ourselves. Perhaps if more people stopped watching them and started actually playing them, the rate of obesity and other weight related health issues would be resolved. Oh but we can’t have that now, can we?
I SECOND THAT!!! DISGUSTING!!!! What is wrong with this country??? Hate sports anyway, hate them more now!
Amen, sister…
Well, at least the local bling-fairy will do well.. :-/
Really? A billion dollars? No. I refuse to believe it.
Or maybe I should start hoping my daughter is a sports superstar? I’d like to retire to a mansion…
