I left the Social Media Day tweet up early. I had places to go, movies to see. You see, I decided I was going to surprise my daughters and take them to a late night showing of Eclipse.
I got home. Got them. Merrily they got into the car, chirping with excitement because they had no clue where I was taking them. They only knew that they were going on an adventure.
Finally I told them.
My ears are still ringing from the squealing and the screaming.
Secretly, aside from some of the lousy reviews I have been reading, I was a little excited too. I’m going to chalk it up to roll over excitement. I was making my girls happy and that made me happy. It had nothing to do with the teeny bopper in me. Although, neither Rob nor Taylor do it for me.
The 10:45 pm movie, opening night, it was dead. Tons of seats available. I was shocked.
Then, the movie started.
It.
SUCKED.
The acting. The dialogue. The whole experience. It was horrendous.
I’m never, ever going to be able to get those two hours back.
I’m going to have to explain to my daughters that the lessons taught in these books and movies about changing to suit your lover is SO wrong. Which is why, if I were to choose teams, would be Team Jacob. No changing of any type to be with him.
By the way, I can’t stand the Edward/Bella needy relationship. It’s borderline stalker creepy.
The only good thing about sitting there was watching my daughter’s face, every single time a scene with shirtless Jacob was on. She smiled with such pleasure. And also, the way she covered her face in embarrassment when Bella and Edward kissed. It was so freaking sweet how shy she was to watch that.
Me? I just wanted to gag over the whole movie. I would have Twittered but my phone battery died. That’s ok, Guilty Squid was busy ripping on me for being there in general, right before my phone lost its power ;).
I don’t know what I was expecting. I hated the first book. I was only able to get as far as the first chapter. And Twilight the movie? Entertaining, at best. But really? These movie stars can’t act and it’s a wonder that they are even considered to be worthy of the big screen.
The final book is being released in movie form soon.
I’ll probably see it because I’ll surprise my daughters again. Because that was awesome.
The movie will probably suck.
But it’s worth it, just to get to hang out with my girls and them to consider me to be cool…even only for a couple of hours.
I’m thinking of taking my niece this weekend.
I had never thought about the message of changing to be with someone. That is pretty creepy.

I would rather stab my eyeballs out than sit through one of those movies. But you are an awesome mom for enduring such pain. I tried reading the first book, and like you, put it down after a chapter. Unreadable, in my opinion.
Lucky for you, there is only one more painful movie to sit through, and you still have a little time to recover from this one.

I sat through the first Harry Potter movie for the same reason. Never went back.

omg. i just walked into the living room to discover my mom and sister watching the second movie. SAVE ME. I think they’re basically watching to see Taylor Lautner get shirtless.
It kills me to see that THIS movie is teaching little girls what to want in a mate. Seriously? Your boyfriend goes away so you should try to off yourself? Blech. My sister has heard me rant about this a lot.

I’m on team “Bella is a whore.” 🙂 Also, I heard a great description of the Twilight Saga today: The great struggle between necrophelia and beastiality.
Good for you for actually stepping and telling your daughters that it is NOT okay to be a simpering wimp like that. We need STRONG women for our girls to look up to!

It makes me physically ill that such poorly written books, with such poorly developed messages with such morally bankrupt messages has made one woman incredibly rich. It also irks me that the author describes Bella and Edward’s relationship like Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy, but better. Excuse me while I throw up.
