My daughter. She’s 12. On the brink of womanhood, wearing a training bra…
which, by the way…I’m so curious to know who dubbed it “training bra”? Is it to train girls who are about to become women to wear bras OR to train our boobs to not droop to the floor?
She likes BOYS.
She can out giggle and out gossip the most “in” chick in our PTA.
BUT…
There is still that teetering precipice…
That little girl part, before she becomes a tampon toting woman.
She loves those silly bandz and totes an arm FULL.
AND she LOVES those little puzzle erasers.
In fact, she loves them so much that she makes a little house for them to live in!
Such an exquisite big girl in her bra, mascara and text messaging…
But such a little girl at heart.
Melissa – Oh you had to go and do that…Both 12 and 14 left for 7 weeks this AM. So left alone in a quiet home that still smells of their hair product and lip balm I find myself wandering…. I am taking this crazy currated tour of their rooms – and much like your eraser abode – there are signs of woman/girl everywhere. Pass me a tissue, please. xxoo
How sweet!
Boys or girls – they do teeter on that cusp don’t they?
But once they fall over…..all bets are off!

How sweet! Why, then, do I dread the day my daughter is 12 years old??

My sweet “big” girl is 8 and today I was silently thrilled that she picked out a Dora DVD at the library with her baby sister. She is “Miss Cool” girl into Hannah Montana and Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber so I couldn’t believe it. But I was secretly glad. 🙂
We should all be so lucky to keep a little girl part of us. I still enjoy sticking my feet in the water at the lake. And stealing a big spoonful of icecream for breakfast, even though when I was 7 my older brother tried desperately to explain that icecream was not a milk substitute. Yes my oldest just threw the mother of all hissy fits today, and managed at one point to out scream her mother. They really do grow up too fast.
…what a precious time this is…and nerve wracking…and precious…and infuriating…and it all passes way too fast! My 12 year suddenly is almost 20 and my velcro boy is 16. These days move way too quickly and oh so slowly. I am really enjoying your blog; I love the gritty realism 😉
Thanks…and I remember back in the dark ages when I was 12 having shoe box homes for my animal erasers, complete with Kleenex quilts and curtains!
Love it M! It’s nice to know that girls will always be little girls.

Oh CRAP. I thought the who boy stuff I posted over at Babe_Chilla’s was bad enough, but the girl stuff? I may actually die. Like literally drop dead from a stroke.
Tampons? Bras? Oh, I’m never going to make it.
I find this very, very comforting. And I think it’s called a ‘training’ bra because when you first start wearing them they feel hugely uncomfortable. Not so later on. Later on you feel hugely uncomfortable without them, or is that just me?

I heart this post. It makes me a little weepy. My 11 year old is woman one second, sweet little girl the next.
That is so very sweet 🙂
That my friend is effing poetic! Love it! We never do grow out of being a perfect little girl.
I love and miss you….had to come share my unyielding love for you.
That is so sweet. I don’t know if I’m excited to see that age or scared. Probably both.
