There is something that’s been confusing and troubling me for quite a bit now. Perhaps someone is smarter or has more clarity of thought and will be able to explain this to me…
It’s like this. I’ve been listening, for ages now, to tons of people singing the blues of financial woe. They or their spouse have been laid off. Or their salaries have been cut. Whatever. Just a bunch of different hardship shaped tears.
So, this is my question. The thing that has me completely stumped.
If things are really as bad as you are crying and flailing your arms around about. Why are the ubiquitous you masses sending your kids to THE most expensive camps? Joining expensive gyms? Buying expensive clothes and electronics? Outdoing each other with the various celebrations?
Spending money that you say is going, going, gone?
I would think that it was time to tighten the belt, no? Start saving a few dollars a for a rainy day.
Or are you thinking that you are living through the stormy season right now and a money tree is going to suddenly grow from all this rain?
I’m just curious. Because I have to tell you, it’s really annoying.
Amen, sister!
Money is tight for us right now, but, instead of running out and buying a new dishwasher (ours broke) or washer (ours is breaking) or lawn tractor (my husband has that thing held together with plumber’s tape and chain link), and instead of going on vacation or even out to eat, we’re making do with what we’ve got.
(It’s driving our teenagers crazy, because their “broke” friends are living the good life.)
Between that and the mothers with extended family and money coming to me with no money or family asking me to babysit their kids or run errands for them, and becoming offended when I say I can’t do it, I’m becoming more content to just stay hiding in my house. At the very least then I’m keeping my bad attitude to myself (’cause, yes, I know, it’s my own bad attitude). But, heck, it sure is hard to overcome sometimes.

I follow some ppl who have spouses who have lost jobs, been without work for months, and are close to losing thier homes, but they still have internet. You would think things like cable & internet would be the first to go if you are desperate for money.
Although, let me P.S that comment. My internet is high speed cable internet and we pay $125 month for it. Maybe some ppl don’t pay that much for internet and they are keeping ot for their sanity, to have something to do.

I’m with you, sista. We have been making do for 18 months now. You don’t even want to know what that means, but it most certainly does not mean new electronics, expensive trips or programs/activities. We are all about recycling/resale/the public library.
