My daughter and a couple of her friends felt helpless when their friend died yesterday. They have actually felt helpless through her entire struggle with cancer. They felt the need to band together and do something. So, they decided on a lemonade stand to generate funds to donate to Childrens Cancer Research Fund, one of the charities chosen by their friend Haleys family for people to donate to in honor of their daughters life.
When I tweeted how proud I was of my daughter and her friends, @alboss suggested a virtual lemonade stand to go along with this…
They are hoping to raise money to help Children’s Cancer Research Fund find a cure for cancer. Because cancer sucks. They hate it. And they want it gone. They don’t want to lose any more of their friends to this demon…ever. And if the money that they make, that they can donate, can help? Then maybe this can help their mourning a little, knowing that they did something for a friend that they will dearly miss.
So please, if you can. Any amount. For my daughter, her friends and in honor of Haley Nathan. That ChipIn widget on the sidebar over there. All the funds will go to Childrens Cancer Research. And so will the money that the girls make from their lemonade stand on my front lawn.
Thank You.
A very cool idea – both the actual and virtual lemonade stand. Good luck to the girls and their fundraising efforts.

You have a wonderful daughter. What a thoughtful way for her and her friends to deal with their loss. Many grownups wouldn’t be as thoughtful.
When I was a few years younger than your daughter, a friend of mine died of leukemia. We didn’t have the resources to be able to help back then, and I was left feeling helpless. Please thank your daughter for offering me the opportunity to help her help others.
What a wonderful daughter you have! After reading this post, I see where she gets it from!

I love it when kids do stuff like this. I hope the effort helps ease the pain of loss and helplessness your daughter and her friends feel. You must be proud of her. ๐
