We’ve had the same experience with family in the past two years. “No, we are only having OUR family over, not you guys!” despite the fact that, hello, we ARE family – and then we discover that every other family member for miles is invited – just not my family of 8.

Whatever. It’s their loss, not mine. And it’s not your loss either – I’d have you over if you lived closer.

That Royally sucks! I think a small family celebration sounds wonderful though.
We will be working, and the kids will be at their dad’s!

This year we will be ringing in the new year with my family as well. It is important to share these times with the people you love. Why spend it with people trying to one-up each other & be fake? Be happy that you have a wonderful family & home to share it with! It costs a lot less, too! I will be thinking about you & your family as the ball drops. Definitely their loss!

Maybe they are jealous of your Royal Palace’s entertaining space and fear you will judge their own — or, when they see all of the awesome people you invite (particularly if they are friends from different areas of your life that don’t often overlap), they assume your Royal Inbox is already more than full of invitations to things much more fabulous than they could hope to host.

If your NYE celebration ends up being your immediate family, rest assured that you will not be the only ones! Cheers

Ed and I haven’t spent New Year’s Eve “out” ever. (This will be our fifth together, fourth married.) We usually eat dinner at home, maybe have a little wine, eat junk food. It’s actually fairly fun that way.

I’ll be ringing in the New Year at work, just like most years… This used to bother me but last year I was very content to just work, go home and sleep through January 1st.

It’s forever synonymous with being the anniversary of my Dad’s death.
