So here’s the thing. Same thing happened with my Maytag, and we had the Maytag guy come out and change the seal (which had mildewed and was causing the smell of carcass to invade our home) and the problem went away.

The Maytag Mag also told us to leave the washer door open between washings so the mildew doesn’t have a chance to “set” again. I’m thinking Maytag should just have anti-mildew seals.

In other news, we have a wool carpet that smells like butt, and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

Thanks for addressing this royal issue, as I also am in possession of a stinky washing machine. Mine is not a front-loader; it's a top-loader. I keep the lid open and I have run through loads with bleach water. Still, it stinks. I'm going to look up the Stinky Washer tablets a commenter mentioned because I never knew about that before. I followed this on twitter yesterday…It sucks really, it does. But, I admit, I do chuckle a lot on the inside, when I read about folks that have spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on a washing machine, with all these bells & whistles, and all they do is create headache & frustration and stinky cloths. And, then I think about how almost three years ago when we moved, I bough a $75 wash machine of of Craig’s List, and I NEVER have any of these problems. SO, I guess, perhaps, my washer is living proof that new to you is better than brand new and that they really don’t make them like they used to anymore.
