I’m STILL obsessing over the grinding thing. I can’t help it. And I FIRMLY BELIEVE that something needs to be done about this. The only controllable place I can think of is during Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. The parents need to step up and open their mouths. Because I can’t truly believe that I’m the only parent in my area, who has kids doing the Bar Mitzvah circuit, who finds grinding to be unacceptable. If I am…then shame on them. I hope they don’t have their children coming to them next year, announcing their pregnancies. Just sayin’
Also. Because I must be PMS’ing. I’m really pissed about this one budget cut in Michigan. From what I understand, one of the cuts is lawn care alongside the roads.
SERIOUSLY?? And this seems so…trivial. But it’s really not.
OK. Fine. We are in a major economic crisis in Michigan. Everything to do with the automotive industry is worse than suffering. Which is having severe snowball ramifications in every aspect of Michigan living. Let’s call it like it is. For Michigan…this is more like a depression. But does our beautiful state have to LOOK depressed?
Can’t people somehow, find it in their hearts, to take their little push mowers…and do it themselves. Mow the medians.
OURSELVES.
It’s called PRIDE, people.
Really.
Somehow. Through a good deed that you do. Something will happen to pay you back.
An hour out of your busy weekend.
Michigan needs to look attractive.
Because all we have left, in our pitiful state (in more ways than one) is our looks…and tourism.
We rely, during sporty type months, on tourism.
Michigan was blessed with being surrounded by those HOMES…the five great lakes. Because of that, we are a tourist destination. Not a hotspot, exactly. But a family destination.
We want tourist revenue. Say YES to Michigan.
Not I DON’T THINK SO.
So, my fellow Michiganders. Find out. Please. For the sake of our beautiful state. What YOU can do to help. Where you can go, with your mower.
And one day. Our great state will pay it forward.
And Michigan. Will somehow, someway, say THANK YOU.
The grinding thing has me bugged too. I can’t get past the fact that some parents just don’t seem to care, or think it’s acceptable. I hope you can at least get them thinking.
I think most states have ‘Adopt-a-Highway’ programs. It wouldn’t take that much more effort to mow, or pull weeds, or plant flowers. It is a simple matter of pride.
I agree. Looking good is half of feeling good, or something like that. Recently, while driving through Detroit, I saw a group of volunteers with mowers and weed whackers clearing a playground. I guess playgrounds are even lower on the list.
You go on and rant, sister! I’m in total agreement with everything you said.
Isn’t that great? haha
Night, PH.
Ok, years ago, a couple of women in my book club – who I REALLY respect – were telling me that that the parents in their kids’ grade got called into the principal’s office of the FH schools because the kids were MISSING SCHOOL on Mondays because they spent the WHOLE WEEKEND Bar and Bat Mitzvahing and were exhausted and all I could think was “Seriously, how about telling your kids they don’t need to go to EVERY FRICKIN’ PARTY that they are invited to.”
But maybe that’s just me.
I agree – it’s bad enough when you drive through neighborhoods where people haven’t taken care of their own lawns, much less to drive along and see the road medians all overgrown… It feels depressing enough in this state a lot of the time – it certainly doesn’t have to look it too. Sigh.
Wow…I live in the U.P. of Michigan and they are mowing the sides of the highways here, no problem..it is beautiful….
is it just in your county?
