Words To Live By: From The Mind Of A 5 Year Old

As you are all well aware, my son is sick…again. Which meant the disruption of the beginnings of a “sleep through the night in his own bed” habit. SIGH.

So last night, we figured it was just as easy to start him out in our bed, as opposed to me making that midnight trip to his room. Plus, he was having a major coughing attack (thanks to, either, black mold or cat allergies, I’m sure). To be on the safe side…seeing as, I’m still worried that my kids are going to get asphyxiated in their sleep…I wanted him tucked in safely on top of me, with my left arm wrapped around him. Just in case he started choking on his own snot.

After watching my son’s new Justice League video, my husband was about to roll over and turn out the lamp, my son gasped…
“I’ll be scared if it’s really dark in here, Dad.”

My husband replied, “Don’t worry, honey. Mom will be Wonder Woman. I’ll be the Hulk. You’ll be super safe from any bad things.” He was feeling all sure of himself, that he nipped the kids nighttime fears in the bud. “But, who are you going to be?” he asked my son.

My son replied, “I’m R, Dad. DUH. And Mommy, she isn’t Wonder Woman. She’s Mommy. And you…you’re NOT Hulk. You’re just my Daddy.” He paused…

And then…he announced, “It’s not about being stupid, fricking superheroes, Daddy. It’s about being your stupid, fricking self.”

Deep words to live by, as told by my 5 year old son. Be yourself.
God, that kid is a genius. He must take after his mother!
But that language…that is ALL Daddy.
