Despite the fact that the baby was hanging so low in my womb that the top of his head was practically hanging out of my crotch…my December 19th due date came and went.
On December 22, 2003…I had Taco Bell for dinner. Do NOT eat Taco Bell when your due date has passed already. Consider that fair warning.
Then, I took a walk with my friend. It was mild outside. And I was more in shape than I am now. Funny, considering…I was VERY pregnant.
And I felt the baby drop. That…was a strange sensation.
Later that evening, I was resting on our eggplant colored, leather sofa while my husband watched his mildly brain rotting wrestling crap on television. OK, fine…severely.
I guess I had fallen asleep because I remember waking up with a start. I had heard a pop coming from within the nether regions…
My water.
EXPLODED.
Everywhere!!
Well…one thing led to another…and I think my MIL actually came over to be with the kids.
My husband drove me and my leaking out of control uterus…to the hospital…
and at around 11:26 am…after being in the hospital since midnight…
and after hours of NOTHING happening…
I pushed for 11 minutes…
and gave birth to a 8 pound 1 ounce baby boy with lots of honey colored hair.
Who screamed and cried and let the world know that he had arrived.
Who…from that day on, barely let me out of his sight.
And today…we will celebrate my baby and his 5th birthday.
My baby.
Who gets mad at me, scrunches up his face and tells me that he isn’t a baby. That he is a BIG boy.
My baby.
My sweet love. Who puts his arms around my neck when I’m tucking him into bed…and he tells me he loves me too much.
My baby…
isn’t a baby anymore.
But…who will ALWAYS be my baby.
Happy Birthday.
To my sweet little man.
You. With your BIG personality.
You have always been larger than life.
You have always dared people to love you. And they do. And do they ever.
You with your temper. And with your compassion. And your empathy.
