Scrolling Saturday…bring back old posts and give them new loving!
I’ve been cleaning my house, from top to bottom…all. day. long. Which is why I’m so late at posting my Scrolling Saturday.
My husband and I started looking for a house even before we got engaged. I think that we both just “knew”.
So we searched. And searched. And…didn’t find ANYTHING.
So, as I’ve mentioned before…we lived in “THEIR” house, with “HER” dishwasher and “THEIR” taste in a remodeled kitchen.
Then…”Their” house sold.
And…”WE” bought a little…and I mean LITTLE, house. Which, as you know…we outgrew when we moved in. So, we put it up for sale after SP5 was born…and it sold on the first day!! That was, obviously, before the house market collapsed!
So…we searched. And searched. And…we found THIS house. You know…our PERFECT house. The one with the breeding ground for toads, in the backyard.
We fell in love with it. So…we made an offer. And…they DIDN’T refuse.
During this time, we were using a Realtor who had also become a fairly close friend…
And…after we made our offer on this PERFECT house…that they DIDN’T refuse…
Our friend…our Realtor…said to me…
“That house is too good for you guys!”
I looked at her, shocked. After all, how could someone say that to me? And…how can a house be too good for a FAMILY???
But, apparently, she knew what she was talking about because…
The wood floors, that were shiny and new looking…AND PERFECT…
are now chipped from toys, animal claws, bikes and scooters being driven in the house…
Drawers and cabinets, that had been so clean and INTACT…
are now chipped, gorilla glued on, or just plain missing…
Garage doors…
Dented and unusable…
Carpet that was new and in perfect condition…
The cats use as a scratching post on the stairs, the kids have vomited all over and even Professional Carpet Cleaners can’t get the stains out…
Wallpaper…which I HATE but, was in excellent condition…
now ripped from the walls by young children…
Windows have had to be replaced because of children kicking out the glass due to temper tantrums…
The meticulously kept landscaping…
Now littered with squirt guns, Nerf balls, baseball bats, sidewalk chalk…and various other children’s toys…
This house…IS A MESS…
It was so PERFECT when I first saw it. When someone else lived in it. So neat. Clean. Tidy. Practically UNLIVED in…
So…now I know what our EX-Realtor and EX-Friend was talking about. Only…this house ISN’T too good for us!
We moved in. And gave it LIFE. And CHARACTER. And…people live HERE. A family.
This house isn’t too good for us!
It’s PERFECT for us.
And…we are PERFECT for it!
So, I now know what she was talking about. But…she was so wrong.
I LOVED this post. It’s now not just a house, it’s a home, and it is perfect.
You know, I’m perfectly ok with chipped, peeling, broken, torn, ripped . . . LIFE. Each chip has a reason. Each break has a story. Each tear has a memory.
People have houses.
Families live in homes. LIVE.
Excellent post.
ahhhh, I remember this one and I liked it just as much this second time around.
Where the heck is everybody? We must not have been the only house with sick kids this week 🙁
I remember this post too. And it’s still exactly on target.
